Ashfall Wardens

Ashfall Wardens is a proper story-driven RPG that respects your time. Battles are turn-based on a grid, and positioning matters more than raw stats — flanking, high ground, and shielding your healer are things you'll learn quickly or lose badly.

The writing surprised us. Companions have their own opinions about your choices, and a couple of mid-game decisions genuinely changed how later chapters played out. The volcanic setting gives everything a heavy, ashy mood without being grim for the sake of it.

Progression is generous. You can respec your characters freely, so experimenting never feels punishing. On a smaller phone the battle grid gets a little cramped, but a tablet fixes that completely.
